Can I split rent payments between tenants?
Yes. For joint tenancies, rent can be split between tenants, as long as the full rent amount is received by the due date.
You can decide between yourselves how you would like to divide the payment. Some residents split it evenly, while others arrange a different share depending on their own agreement. Morro does not manage that split for you, so it is important to make sure everyone knows what they need to pay and when.
Both tenants remain jointly and severally liable for the full rent. In simple terms, this means each tenant is responsible for making sure the full amount is paid, even if one person misses their share.
Rent is collected monthly in advance, usually by direct debit. If more than one payment is being made manually, each payment should include the unit number and resident surname as the reference so it can be matched correctly.
If you have questions about setting up payments for a joint tenancy, contact the Morro team before your rent is due.
