# What are the requirements for a guarantor?
A guarantor must meet Morro’s affordability and referencing requirements before they can support an application.
The guarantor must have a gross annual income of at least **42 times the monthly rent**. They must also be a **UK resident** and willing to sign a legally binding guarantee as part of the tenancy agreement.
Guarantors complete their own referencing checks through **Homeppl**, Morro’s third-party referencing provider. These checks may include:
- **Identity verification**
- **Credit checks**
- **Income verification**
- **Fraud prevention checks**
The guarantee means the guarantor may be responsible for rent and other tenancy obligations if the resident does not meet them, so they should read everything carefully before signing.
