What happens if referencing is unsuccessful?

If referencing is unsuccessful, the Morro team will let you know the outcome and explain what happens next.

Depending on the reason, it may still be possible to move forward. For example, if the issue relates to affordability, you may be able to proceed with a guarantor, subject to the guarantor completing their own referencing checks and meeting the required criteria.

If referencing is unsuccessful because you fail the Right to Rent check, or because false, misleading or materially inaccurate information has been provided, the holding deposit may be retained.

In other cases, the team will explain the reason for the outcome and discuss whether any alternative options are available. This might include applying with a guarantor, considering a different home or pausing the process until your circumstances change.

If you have concerns before applying, contact the Morro team through bymorro.com. A quick conversation early on can help you understand your options before paying the holding deposit.
