How will I be notified about a rent change?

If your rent is going to change, you’ll receive a formal written notice.

This notice will use the prescribed form required under the Housing Act 1988. It will set out the proposed new rent and the date the change is intended to take effect.

You’ll be given notice in writing so you have time to review the proposed change, ask questions and seek advice if you need to. If you believe the proposed rent is above the market rate, you can refer it to the First-tier Tribunal (Property Chamber) before the new rent takes effect.

The notice will also make clear when the new amount would be due, so you can understand how it affects your future payments.

If you receive a rent change notice and anything feels unclear, contact the Morro team. They can talk you through the practical details, including the proposed amount, timing and what happens next.
