What happens to my deposit when I move out?

After you move out, the team will carry out a checkout inspection of your home.

This inspection compares the condition of the home against your move-in inventory, allowing for fair wear and tear. The team will check things like cleanliness, furniture, appliances, fittings, missing items and any damage beyond normal everyday use.

If there are no deductions, your deposit will be returned through the Deposit Protection Service (DPS). Morro does not hold or return the money directly once the deposit is protected.

If any deductions are proposed, the team will tell you what they are for and the amount involved. Deductions may relate to things such as damage, missing inventory items, unpaid charges or cleaning needed because the home was not left in the required condition.

If you disagree with a deduction

  • Review the checkout notes and any evidence provided.
  • Share any information or photos you think are relevant.
  • If you still disagree, you can raise a dispute through the DPS.

Before you leave, it is worth arranging a pre-checkout inspection and using your inventory as a guide. A little preparation can make the deposit return process much smoother.
