What should I do if the fire alarm sounds?

If the fire alarm sounds, follow the fire safety guidance for your building straight away.

At The Altham, the building operates a Defend in Place fire strategy. This means that if the alarm sounds in your apartment, or in an area directly affecting your home, you should leave your apartment and move to a safe location at least 18 metres from the building.

If you hear the fire alarm in a shared space, you should evacuate the building using the nearest safe exit. Do not use the lift during an evacuation.

Once outside, move away from the building and wait for updates from the Front of House team, emergency services or the Morro App. Do not re-enter until you have been told it is safe.

If you discover a fire, leave the area, raise the alarm if it is safe to do so and call 999.

Fire alarm tests take place regularly. If you are ever unsure whether an alarm is a test or a real emergency, treat it as real and follow the evacuation guidance.
